Bring fresh ideas, purposeful play and practical teaching strategies to your Kindergarten classroom.
Learn Forward’s Kindergarten, Part 1 AQ meaningfully addresses Ontario’s 2026 Kindergarten curriculum updates and revisions, supporting teachers in understanding the changes and applying them to planning, instruction and assessment. Explore how evidence-informed explicit instruction can enrich play- and inquiry-based learning, with particular attention to foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, science and technology.
Grounded in an understanding of children as competent, capable and curious learners, this course connects research with classroom practice. Through collaborative learning, reflection and practical application, participants will explore:
- Purposeful play and inquiry: Design authentic learning experiences that support children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.
- Foundational literacy and mathematics: Develop practical strategies for oral language, phonological awareness, early reading and writing, number understanding, counting, patterns and early money concepts.
- The environment as the third teacher: Create inviting, accessible indoor and outdoor spaces that encourage exploration, independence, creativity and collaboration.
- Assessment and pedagogical documentation: Use observations, conversations and evidence of learning to make children’s thinking visible, provide feedback and plan responsive next steps.
- Belonging, self-regulation and well-being: Build caring relationships and responsive routines that support children’s confidence, participation and growth.
- Equity and inclusion: Apply culturally responsive and anti-oppressive practices that honour children’s identities, languages and strengths, including supports for learners with special education needs.
- Indigenous perspectives and outdoor learning: Meaningfully include First Nations, Métis and Inuit perspectives and knowledge systems, land-based learning and environmental stewardship.
- Relationships and partnerships: Strengthen collaboration with early childhood educators, families and community partners to support learning and transitions through the early years.
Whether you are new to Kindergarten or refreshing your practice, this course will help you develop an intentional, inclusive program and a repertoire of strategies you can bring directly to your classroom.
