Reading, Part 1, Intermediate/Senior introduces Black literary works spanning poetry, plays, and prose by writers like Achebe, Adichie, Baldwin, Brand, Lorde, Marley, Morrison, and Walcott. Emphasizing Black joy and creativity, it critically examines how these literatures challenge systemic subordination and portray diverse Black experiences. Special focus is on Black women writers confronting gendered racism and reshaping cultural norms in literature, equipping educators to integrate these transformative perspectives into teaching practices. Participants will study literacy theories, apply them to curriculum planning, and explore practices for enhancing reading skills. They'll use technology for literacy support and learn differentiated instruction for diverse learners. Through practical activities, educators will design interventions, analyze student data, and refine teaching methods to foster literacy engagement among intermediate and senior students.
