Special Education Part II builds on the foundations of Part I, emphasizing special education practices through an anti-racist, anti-ableist, and anti-oppressive perspective within the Ontario education system. Educators will learn to design and implement IEPs and develop equitable, accessible, and inclusive programs for students receiving special education services. By the end, participants will understand provincial and board policies and practices that challenge and dismantle oppressive structures, fostering inclusive learning environments.

The course delves into the identities of students in special education, addressing systemic and individual barriers with effective anti-oppressive strategies. Educators will explore roles, responsibilities, and relationships affecting student outcomes, and familiarize themselves with policies, regulations, and data used in creating IEPs and transition plans.

Participants will also investigate accessibility, equity, and inclusion in technology and instructional practices, and discuss optimizing learning environments. This includes integrating outdoor and land-based learning to create intentionally inclusive spaces for all students.
